Between the homework, sports, and keeping everyone in the family clothed and fed, being a mom is a full-time job! Thinking about your outfit and style is sometimes the last thing on your mind when you leave the house. Here are a couple of simple tips to help you look your best when you step out the door and not like you were just running around tripping on lego’s trying and trying to get the school science experiment done!

Purge Your Closet

How many times have you looked at your overstuffed closet and said: “I have nothing to wear”? That is because putting together an outfit can be overwhelming when you have too many options. After your closet is organized, you will find it much easier to put together chic outfits quickly. See my post here to help with de-cluttering your closet.

Uniform

Now that you have your closet cleaned out, you need a couple of simple outfit combinations, or a uniform, that you can reach for on a moments notice. Choose solid and timeless basics such as below. Invest a little more in these pieces, so they last you will get several wearings from them.

When you put an outfit on that you love, take a picture and save it to a Pinterest board for easy future reference.

Outfit formulas:

Button-up shirt, white denim with printed mules and a luxe bag.

Striped t-shirt, skinny jeans, loafers, and a bright scarf.

Solid knit sweater, leggings, and leopard or snake printed boots/shoes.

Silk camisole, knit cardigan, ripped boyfriend jeans, and old school sneakers.

T-shirt, blazer, skinny jeans with sneakers.

Striped t-shirt, jeans, loafers with a bright scarf and a structured bag.

Accessories

Your accessories are what is going to pull your look together and make it stand out. Having the below pieces in your rotation will bring your mom style up a notch for sure!

1.A bright or printed light scarf to wrap around your neck or shoulders like a cape.

2. A Luxe structured bag can be an outfit maker!

3. Printed flat shoes. Wearing a statement shoe will give any simple outfit interest.

4. Big dark sunglasses, your best friend when there is no time for make-up.

5. Timeless watch or one signature piece of jewelry.

6. A bold gold necklace that will give any button-up or t-shirt a luxe pop when you want it.

A good borrowed from the boys look is one of my favorite ways to put an outfit together. I have gone through the 4 Menswear Pieces For A Girl’s Closet and now let’s talk more about how to put it all together!

The key thing to keep in mind is creating juxtaposition or contrast in your outfit. The menswear piece can be fitted or oversized to your liking, just remember to pair it with feminine details. I choose my Chanel mini for both of these looks because it has such a beautiful, feminine feel.

Your shoe choice should also fall into the stiletto heel category unless you’re going for a more sporty look such as here.

A bold red lip for date-night is always a good idea, especially when wearing menswear.

The colors that are paired with a suit also will create contrast. In this post, the maroon velvet is gorgeous with the pinstripe suit!

Lace can be tricky to pull off. You don’t want to look tacky or cheap, or like you are in grade school! However, with the right styling, you can elevate an all lace outfit to have a modern, grown-up look.

Lace is best styled with contrast. When you mix in tailored and structured pieces, this delicate fabric will look fabulous! The bold gold necklaces I’m wearing along with the structured Chanel bag, bring a touch of edgy sophistication I love. Finishing off with large, glam sunglasses and black nails adds a little sexiness.

Balance the Feminity with edgy sophistication.

The chic effect from toughing up lace with leather is classic and undeniable! Your moto jacket will be a lace dresses bff!

Versatile Options

You can also wear the suit as separates making it so versatile! Pair the blazer with a crew-neck t-shirt and denim. Add sneakers for day and heels for date night! The same way I styled in this post here. Wear the lace pants with a chunky knit or t-shirt and denim jacket.

I love all things Sandro Paris right now and their beautiful lace section has the pieces styled perfectly on the models! They are mixing in denim and sneakers into their ensembles to give a casual daytime feel.

So the next event you have to go to step out of your comfort zone and wow everyone in a lace suit!

A black and white outfit is so easy to quickly put together but always looks chic and never overdone! Especially when you add some stripes to the mix! Here I also added a simple heel with a fun leopard print for more interest.

If you mix textures of the colors you will also get an elevated, but casual outfit. Say a black fur coat with a white cotton tee-shirt and black straight leg, cropped pants with white booties! Adding a statement belt to the look, like the cult favorite Gucci Belt, would be just the right accessory. Love it! Just have fun and play around with different fabrics and cuts!

Another great option is a black gingham print with a black sweater and a bright shoe! Seen here on my Instagram.
