Hello, springtime in Texas! This season is one of my favorites. It will be a good day if you are outside without sweating in Texas. ☀️ I like to soak up these days because it will be blazing in the summertime, and the AC bill will double! A pair of shoes is the easiest way to elevate any look. While you don’t need to cover all the fashion trends, owning a couple of stylish and on-trend shoes is the perfect way to update your spring outfits. This year we are seeing metallic, kitten block heels, rattan, sandals, and of course, the staple neutral!

Spring Capsule Packing List

Another winter has come and gone, and we’re officially gearing up to face the glorious spring and summer days! It also means that we’re digging our spring wardrobes out of storage and swapping our boots for our sandals. The bright colors, lightweight fabrics, and beautiful textures of spring fashion always feel like a reward after a long season of winter wear. With spring and summer come lots of fun trips! That is why I have put together the perfect Spring Capsule Packing List for you.

What Is A Capsule Wardrobe?

The simple definition is that it’s a curated wardrobe made up of versatile pieces you love to wear. Creating your capsule wardrobe should be a testament to your personal style.

A capsule wardrobe consists of a set of tops, bottoms, dresses, outerwear, shoes, and accessories that can be easily mixed and matched together to be dressed up, down, and anywhere in between. It means your closet has less trendy pieces that will only be worn for one season and more high-quality, classic pieces that stand the test of time and can be worn for years. The best part? While it might feel more expensive at the moment, you’ll actually save money in the long run since you won’t be going through so many fast-fashion pieces.

Once you master a starter capsule wardrobe, it can be curated and swapped from season to season. It makes it easy to pack up and take out clothes for the appropriate season because every time you pull them out, they’re just as in style as when you bought them.

How To Build A Spring Capsule

To create a capsule wardrobe, begin by examining your current clothing. Assess each item to determine if it’s an essential piece you want to keep. (More here on how to decide that) Remember to include shoes and accessories when editing your wardrobe.

Then, sort each item into one of four piles:

  1. I love it and will wear it tomorrow: These pieces fit your body and lifestyle, and you’re happy wearing them. Put these back first.
  2. Maybe: These pieces might not fit perfectly, have sentimental value, or you just can’t put your finger on why you don’t wear them more. (If you haven’t reached for it more than once, it belongs in this pile too). Put all of these items in a box and store them in a place that’s easily accessible. If you find yourself reaching for an item, put it back in your closet after; if you haven’t reached for it by the end of the season, keep it in the box to take to donate. This is noncommittal (for now) and allows you to change your mind later.
  3. Hard no: Whether it’s because it doesn’t fit or you just decided you don’t like it, pack these pieces up to donate them.
  4. Seasonal: There’s no need to keep a cashmere sweater next to your summer tank tops. Move all of your seasonal pieces into a storage location that will be easy for you to swap out once the time is right.

Now, look at what’s left in your closet and evaluate what your personal style is and what holes you have. Maybe you’re completely set on jeans, but you could use a new jacket for spring. Now that you have a clear vision of what you’ll be able to pair that jacket with, you’ll make a better selection for what fits your closet. This doesn’t mean you have to entirely forego trend pieces and forever live wearing button-ups and jeans—it just means that when you do purchase trendier pieces, you know that they’ll have a place in your wardrobe and that they’ll get worn.

White Tee

I always bring a couple of white tees because I find myself wearing them frequently. They are perfect to wear by themselves or layer. My go-to white tee is a cropped, boxy silhouette. I love this Varley tee. It is of incredible quality and so soft. A great look-for-less option is this Everlane tee! 

 

White Button Down

A white button-down is a hero piece in any capsule wardrobe. With numerous styling options, it can be worn as a light jacket, tied up over a slip dress, or even as a swimsuit cover-up. Its versatility makes it a staple in the fashion world.

Flattering Jeans

A great pair of jeans are an essential piece to pack for vacation. Opt for a comfortable pair that can be worn casually during the day and dressed up with heels at night.

Long Denim skirt

This is a trendy piece that I have been wearing non-stop. It’s pretty much taken the place of shorts for me. Think about styling this skirt with either a button-down, plain tee or a bodysuit with a sweater tossed over your shoulders. Cute flats or heels work with this look. Slip Dress

A slip dress is a classic, versatile cut that I always make sure to pack. For a casual look, simply layer it with a cozy sweater or wear a tied-at-the-waist button-up top over it and pair it with sneakers. To dress it up, wear heels and accessorize with your favorite bag. This perfect piece easily adapts to changing temperatures through smart layering.

I love to bring a striped sweater and a color-of-the-moment sweater when I travel. These are great for wearing alone or layering over shirts, jackets, and dresses. See the style hack of how to do that here!

Combine this timeless button-up shirt with your fresh white pieces for an effortless look. With denim on denim being a popular trend in 2023, this outfit is an excellent way to stay on-trend using your spring capsule wardrobe pieces.

Denim is a classic choice when it comes to spring jackets. I love this one when going for a white denim. White denim is incredibly chic and offers versatility in styling options!

How To Style Linen Pants

One classic item that is a staple in the summertime is a pair of Linen Pants! Your summer wardrobe should consist of the following: sundresses in breathable fabrics, loose tops, strappy tops, shorts, and your favorite pair of linen pants. Linen pants are light, airy, and a great way to stay cool and comfortable in the summer heat.

Light neutral colors like beige and white are the most popular choices for this type of pant, especially during the summer season. Linen pants can be styled for a day running errands, the office, summer events, and so much more! Check out some of my favorite ways to style down below.

The Best Self-Tanning Products

There is just something about having a nice tan that can make you feel like a million bucks! Gone are when you had to rub oil on yourself outside in the heat or lay in a tanning bed to get a nice tan. If you are new to the self-tanning process, it can be overwhelming. For starters, there are so many products to choose from, and many of them can leave you with streaks or an overly tan color. Then, there’s the actual application of the self-tanner and how to apply it correctly. To help make the process easier, I’m sharing my self-tanning routine and favorite tanning products.

My Self-Tanning Routine

I usually self-tan once a week. It usually lasts about a week, but the first few days are the best! My favorite self-tanning products are the Clarin Radiance Glow Booster, Couskincare Face Tanning Serum, +Lux Unfiltered Tanning Mousse, and the +Lux Unfiltered Gradual Lotion.

The +Lux Unfilted Tanning Mouse is non-toxic, vegan, and cruelty-free. It contains sunflower extract, jojoba seed extract, papaya extract, cocoa seed extract, and hyaluronic acid; N°36 will evenly tan your body while infusing your skin with the hydration it craves. Color will start developing within 2 hours and continue growing for 8 hours.

For the +Lux Unfiltered Gradual Lotion, I get the shade Santal. It is infused with shea butter, cocoa butter, squalane, avocado oil, and passion fruit oil, and this gradual self-tanner will leave your skin dewy and bronze. You put it on just like a lotion (with your hands), leave it on for 8 hours, rinse off, and you’re good to go! 

The CouSkincare Face Tanning Serum has ingredients like Raspberry Seed Oil, Aloe Vera, and Vitamin A & E. This tanning serum hydrates, tightens, and strengthens the skin while giving you a luminous glow. This gradual tanner can be built up daily or just used for special occasions. It goes on transparent (does not have a color guide), so pigment will not transfer to your clothes or sheets. It can be used on bare skin or integrated into your makeup routine.

Last but not least, the Clarin Radiance Glow Booster. These are easy-to-apply self-tanning drops for the face—formulated with 99% ingredients of natural origin—that delivers an even, long-lasting tan 365 days a year. A concentrated formula that builds in intensity with every drop, so you control the glow—from sun-touched to deep bronze. Step 1. Exfoliate & Shave

The best self-tan starts in preparation. To get a completely even color, you should always exfoliate and shave the day before you self-tan. Self-tanner applies best and stays on longer when the skin has been exfoliated. From experience, I have learned that when you self-tan too soon after you exfoliate and shave, the formula fills your pours and can leave dark spots, especially on your legs.

I love using this exfoliating mitt and body wash to ensure and get everything off.

After exfoliating in the shower, I get out and moisturize well. I pay extra attention to the spots that tend to get dry. Those spots typically consist of my elbows, back of knees, hands, feet, etc.

Step 2. Apply The Self-Tanner

I will apply the self-tanner the following day or several hours after I take my prep shower. As I listed above, I have a few different go-to’s, but I gravel-towards +Lux Unfilted Tanning Mouse most often for my body.

For application, I spray the mousse onto my tanning mitt and work up my body, starting at my legs. I go in an upward motion to make sure there are no streaks or splotches. After that, I do my mid-section and my arms. I often have my husband do my back or use this self-tanning back applicator. After my body is done, I will use what is left on my mitt and go over my hands and feet. I scrunch my hands to make a claw position and get every crevice. It’s essential to wipe the palms of your hands off after you are finished with your application. If self-tanner gets on your palms, they can end up looking splotchy.

I will use the CouSkincare Face Tanning Serum or Clarin Glow Glow Booster for my face. For the CouSkincare Tanning Serum, you apply a few pumps directly on your face and gently rub them in. For the Clarin Radiance Glow Booster, mix a few drops with your moisturizer and use it on your face.

Step 3. Let The Self-Tanner Develop

I always try to apply spray tanner at night and let it dry overnight.

After you finish self-tanning, wearing oversized, baggy clothes is crucial, as you don’t want to wear anything that will rub up against your skin or leave marks. Ensure your clothing is not too heavy, as you don’t want to sweat, causing the self-tanner to run or streak. I also try to wear long pants and a long sleeve shirt to avoid staining my bed sheets overnight.

If you are going to tan during the day, it is still important to wear loose-fitting clothing. If you wear a bra or leggings, it will more than likely cause your tan to streak and develop splotchy. It is also essential to avoid getting your body wet while your tan develops. Always check the directions on your spray tanner to see how long they recommend you wait until showering.

Step 4. Self-Tanner Rinse

When it’s time to shower after the allotted time, be sure to rinse off gently. When drying off, pat your skin dry, and do not rub it with a towel. Avoid rubbing or using a washcloth, as you don’t want to rub off the self-tanner. It’s ok that some color looks like it is coming off in the shower. Don’t panic; this is only the top layer of the tan.

Step 5. Protecting Your Tan

To prolong my tan, I apply lotion every day after I rinse off. I will often apply my +Lux Unfiltered Gradual Lotion after I rinse off. This will lock in your color and prolong your tan.

My Favorite Express Denim Under $100

Whether you are looking for some date night inspo, a chic outfit for a day out with your girls, or are just in the market to update your wardrobe with some fresh denim, this post is for you! Today I’m sharing some of my new jean favorites and how I styled them from Express! These are some of my go-to denim under $100!

I’m all for a dressed-up look when the occasion calls for it, but more often than not, I live for casual looks elevated with trendy pieces, fun accents, and some luxe accessories for a little something special. Express jeans have been a repeat go-to for several years for good reason. I have often raved about their denim for its flattering and trendy styles as well as the movable stretch that makes them an absolute dream to wear.

Look 1.

I love the wider-leg trouser style. The ones I’m wearing here are the Low Rise Light Wash Ripped Baggy Straight Jeans. These fit me like a glove and are so flattering! I have them styled with this fun and flirty Surplice Cutout Halter Cami, perfect for summer!

Express makes some of the best blouses, and if you follow me on IG, you’ll have heard me talk about them plenty of times before. Their Short Sleeve Button Front Boxy Shirts are sized to perfection, in my opinion, and the material allows them to drape in the most flattering way. I have it paired with the Mid Rise Light Wash Raw Hem 70s Flare Jean. These jeans are form-fitting through the hips and thighs and have an easy flare from the knees down. They are a comfort stretch denim that will keep you comfy all day!

I loved the previous look so much that I had to grab both the jeans and the top in black! Black jeans are a great staple. I feel like you can dress them up a bit more than your traditional jean for a chic look but also dress them down for a casual look. You also can’t go wrong with a black blouse. It is so versatile and pairs with virtually everything.

These aren’t denim, but I had to squeeze them into this post. These are the Super High Waisted Pleated Ankle Pant. I love the sleek and tailored look with the ankle-length style to show off your shoe candy. It has the perfect fit and flatter cut from the waist down. Tuck in tees, tanks, or blouses for work and everyday style.

There’s no replacement for a good bodysuit. This Skimming One Shoulder O-Ring Thong Bodysuit is a stunning piece. Throw a blazer over top for the office, or keep the sleeves off for a chic day look.

Warmer weather is the perfect time to start thinking about traveling. A European Vacay is the ideal destination year-round, but summer in Europe is especially popular! It is on my list to get there during the summer soon!

Depending on which countries you’re visiting (as Europe is huge and diverse), you’ll run into mild temperatures and HOT days—so, as with most trips, it’s important to pack layers for all occasions. I recommend looking at the weather as much as possible to help make the most of your luggage space!

 

Look 1.

Dresses are perfect to wear in the summer. They’re easy to pack, easy to wear, look great just about anywhere you go, and manage to look pulled together while only requiring one piece of clothing.

Comfy shoes are a staple when planning a Europe vacation. The days can consist of lots of walking, so I made sure to pack comfortable sandals that could style well with multiple outfits. The Sam Edelman Bay sandals are an excellent option for that. Throw a pair of heels in your suitcase, and you’ve got a chic day-to-night look.

The Banana Republic dress above is an excellent option for sightseeing, touring museums, or sitting by the water. It has an appropriate cut to match dress codes for certain museums but is still light enough to help cool you in the warmer weather—a must-have for your European Vacay Outfits.

Gold jewelry is a staple of mine. It goes with practically every outfit and can elevate your look. The bag I have above was a staple of mine on my last trip to Paris! It was so easy to throw on and fit all my necessities, plus my camera!

White is a perfect color for summer. The dress above has a flattering cut and will keep you cool on a hot summer day. Having a baseball cap on hand and comfy sneakers is always a good option. They pair nicely with this dress and will keep you comfortable during a day of walking.

Add a pop of color to your outfit by styling a colorful handbag to your outfit. The one above is from Express and looks adorable, styled with neutral outfits.

Wanting to stand out with a bright color? The dress above is a perfect option. I styled it with the Ganni Bag and woven raffia strap sandals to match the fabrics. Nothing screams summer more than a beautiful raffia texture.

When I say Spanx, you might think about shapewear, bras, and leggings. However, Spanx has added much more to its brand over the years. Functional clothing pieces in versatile fabrics that are soft to the touch. I love these easy-care fabrics that are perfect to wear every day and for travel.

AirEssentials Half-Zip– Upgrade your athleisure style with this butter-soft half-zip pullover. Wear it with the matching pants or jeans. You’ll never want to take it off.

AirEssentials Tapered Pant– These chic pants are always a top seller of mine! They have a very flattering fit and have a folded hem at the tapered leg opening. The perfect travel pant that is comfortable and doesn’t wrinkle. 

AirEssentials Mock Neck– I reach for this top a lot! It’s perfect layered under a jacket or on its own. It pairs beautifully with any Spanx bottoms and is made of beautiful fabric that is lightweight and luxe.

AirEssentials’ At-the-Hip’ Pullover– Pullovers are a closet staple, but often they don’t have the best fit. If that sounds like pullovers you have, then you must try this one! It is lightweight, luxuriously soft, and designed to take you anywhere and everywhere.

Stretch Twill Cropped Wide Leg Pant– Another top seller of mine! These pants are incredibly flattering and comfortable. The white color (my favorite) is not see-through. When I wear these out, I cannot tell you how often I get compliments! They do not have a zipper or button for a seamless pull-on fit. Fantastic for the office or a day on the go. I size up one size in these to a Small reg.

AirEssentials Mock Neck Dress– Spanx’s most loved fabric is now in the perfect mock neck dress. It is functional, silky, and light as air. Wear with sneakers and throw a crewneck over your shoulders for an athleisure look, or dress it up with jewelry and heels.

AirEssentials Jumpsuit– The best material ever turned into this gorgeous jumpsuit. Perfect for those days when you don’t want to put much effort in but still want to look put together, Jumpsuits are one of my favorites because you get your whole outfit all in one. r!
