Designer Resale

I am, much to my husband’s chagrin, a self-proclaimed shopping addict. I so love beautiful clothes, bags, and shoes! If you are like me,  and love designer pieces, there is no better way to purchase them at a substantial discount than at The RealReal. I have been shopping this online resale site for a couple of years now, and I’m obsessed with it! If you’re not familiar with The RealReal,  it’s time to do yourself a favor and check out the majorly designer pieces!

The site can be overwhelming considering the massive amount of inventory they have. I’ve received alot of questions about how to navigate the site. So I wanted to share my tips that will help you find the items you love for 70% off without wasting your time shopping around in circles.

1. Know Your Size

When your out shopping, go ahead and try on the Gucci shoes and Burberry trench that you LOVE….but cannot justify paying the high price. Because you might find that exact piece for 70% off and you will want to be able to click buy now with confidence and a big smile, knowing you just scored a fantastic deal!

2. Start Obsessing

Use the hearts next to the items to bookmark them to your obsessions tab. This lets you keep track of items your interested in. Also, if they go on sale that will be reflected there. Highly coveted items will go very quickly so don’t wait long if you know you want it. I am still bummed about missing out on a gorgeous Chloe denim long coat because I waited too long to pull the trigger.

3. Use The 20% Discount Code

There will be a 20% off code at the top of the screen in red! Use that code when you check out. It will apply to pretty much everything except Chanel Bags and a couple of other high-end brands. They will be marked letting you know there is not a discount available.

4. Search Tool

Searching for the exact item you’re looking for is easy. Click on the magnifying tool in the top right corner and just type in what you want.. for example —MaxMara Coat. Then choose “refine” to select your size, color and such. When the results pop up, you can push save, and that search will go into your feed.

5. Customize “Your Feed”

There is a feature only on their app called a feed. This is my go-to way to shop the site! Starting your personalized feed is easy. Start by using their search tool. (See above) When I go to the sight, I mainly scroll my feed for items I’m on the lookout for. Your feed can be more general also, like Frame tops in size XS, or you can also specify a color. It’s super easy and addicting!

The good pieces sell FAST, and this lets you see them right away!

6. Wait List

So you search for your perfect shoe or bag, and it’s sold out! Click “add to the wait list” to be notified if the item comes back in stock. Also, if you have an item on your obsessions that just sold, add it to your waitlist, and you will be notified if it gets returned!

7. Returns

Be sure to click on the Returns Policy tab, next to the details, on every item you purchase. It will be different if the item is more than 20% off. Most Chanel is non-returnable. ALWAYS check this so you don’t get caught with something that doesn’t fit or you end up not liking. You also have to pay the return shipping. However, you do get access to a convenient printable label.

8. Authentic Guaranty

You can purchase with confidence because The RealReal has a team of experts that authenticates every item and gives you a 100% guarantee or your money back.

I hope this guide inspires you to score some designer goods for your closet!

I’d love to hear if you have bought resale fashion before and what your experience was in the comments below!

Spring Sandals

Spring SandalsSpring has finally arrived with its warm days. I’m so excited to bring out some of my favorite sandals that I’ve had for years to wear with lighter spring/summer outfits. Yes, I said years! You know I love trendy shoes as much as any girl, as you can see in this post. However, having some timeless sandals in your rotation is a must. You can reach for them to pair with pretty much any outfit!

When shopping for a timeless shoe, look for clean lines and classic colors.

Under $125.00

There are plenty of affordable options in this price range for spring sandals. You can then focus your spending on other things such as your summer vacation instead!

$195.00 to $245.00

The leathers will be authentic and soft in this price range. You should get a longer life out of them with the quality of craftsmanship.

$480.00 to $620.00

When you look at luxe sandals, it will be a whole different level of materials and quality. You also will get the pretty packaging with the box and shoe bags, it’s a whole experience! I bought my Hermès Oran sandals two years ago. They have been heavily worn but are still in perfect condition and I plan on wearing them for years to come. However, it’s kinda crazy but these sandals sell out quickly, in June there will be few sizes left if they are in stock at all! So if your thinking about a pair see if your size is in stock now.

Thanks so much for reading!

Do you have a pair of sandals that you have been reaching for threw the years?

Camel Coat

I get excited about fresh trends in fashion but I know they will come and go, so I do not usually invest in these pieces. However, a camel coat is a piece you can count on being chic and in style year after year!  You will be pairing it with pretty much any outfit from jeans and skirts to shorts and dresses!

You can and should invest in a camel coat!

I actually didn’t add this piece to my closet until a couple of years ago! Not sure why I waiting so long but don’t make the same mistake as me!  I so wish I would have added this classic silhouette years ago because I now wear it so much! I started with a shorter lightweight coat and then this year I added this gorgeous Rag & Bone. It’s long and has a heavier weight. I love how it’s tapered at the waist and only has one button down the front for a clean elegant look.

Now is the perfect time to buy a coat if you need one because you can get a better coat for the money since alot of the coats are on huge markdowns with the end of the season! You can also shop resale sites for high-end designer coats at huge discounts! Read my post Your Guide To Buying Designer Resale Fashion to learn how to easily find what you’re looking for!

Have you invested in a camel coat yet? Let me know in the comments below!

White Boots with Plaid Jacket - Her Fashioned Life

6 Fashion Trends To Buy For 2018

6 Fashion Trends To Buy For 2018 980 1080 Tammy Caciola

With the start of 2018, you’re wondering what the next big fashion trends are going to be! The trends to invest in that will carry you through the year. I’ve covered 6 of them here. You can feel free to embrace these trends, as they all came straight from the designer runways and are already on the street style girls everywhere!

Lavender

The hottest color for Spring Summer of 2018 will be Lavender. Tom Ford was the first to bring this soft lilac color to the runway and it’s been at the front of street style outfits since!  This pastel color looks beautiful worn with the well-worn denim or black basics you’re used to pairing your blush pinks with.

Lavender Furry Coat Trend - Her Fashioned Life

Belt Bags

Well, the Fanny pack has gotten a new name, and social acceptance. Most likely you have all seen this belt bag expertly styled by celebrities and street style girls! Now we are all wanting to get out hands on a cute little mini bag!

Buckle shoes

As I’m sure you know, shoes are a favorite subject of mine! For 2018 look for embellishment of buckles on shoes. Metal and crystal buckles are going to dominate this year, along with ankle strap shoes! Wear these fancy accessories as outfit makers, pairing them with simple silhouettes, letting them be the focus of your outfit.

Utility Jumpsuits

For those of you who love the one and done outfit, you’ll be happy to hear, the utility jumpsuit will be a strong trend this year! You can style this versatile piece with everything from heels to sneakers or oxfords. Let t-shirts peek out by leaving it unbuttoned a bit or wear it alone for a sexy look.

Bold Florals

Florals seem to get a new twist every year and this year the blooms are trending with a 60’s inspiration. Bolder, larger and not so delicate. Look for more print mixing with everything from abstracts to graphics.

Basket and Net Bags

These bags were all the rage last year and I’m happy to say they are not going anywhere in 2018. I love the summery light feeling they give outfits!

A hoodie is definitely a  piece of clothing you need in your closet! The only issue with buying one is that it might be sold out the very next day! Whether designer brand or not they are selling fast in the fashion world! So if you see one you love, grab it before it’s gone! I waited too long on an Isabele Marant hoodie and I’m still bummed about it! I did, however, buy the Proenza Schouler piece and styled it for my post, How To Style A Hoodie 8 Ways. Chanel bag with Menswear plaid jacket style - Her Fashioned Life

4 Menswear Pieces For A Girl’s Closet

4 Menswear Pieces For A Girl’s Closet 1280 853 Tammy Caciola

Chanel bag with Menswear plaid jacket style - Her Fashioned Life

Plaid Menswear Blazer with Vintage Levi's tshirt and Chanel bag - Her Fashioned Life

Menswear For The Girls

There’s a reason menswear staples have withstood the test of time. With the classic silhouettes and fabrics, to the functional detailing, they’re designed to be lived in. Trends come and go, but we will be styling menswear-inspired pieces year after year.

I love how these pieces give you a comfort meets style feel with the clean, tailored lines. Not to mention this style has a very sexy look! You can look to Katharine Hepburn and Kate Moss for inspiration, both were pros of styling a masculine look with a twist.

It’s all about the contrast and proportions of your outfit.  Mixing in feminine pieces will balance the look and separate you from the boys, even if it’s just wearing a red lip, or showing more skin by styling a camisole under a blazer.

Jackets

Truth be told, I’ve never met a jacket I didn’t like! I especially love a good trench coat, bomber jacket, blazer or moto jacket! All of which are basically menswear. Whichever style you love, when you wear it with contrasting feminine pieces (See here in the post Styling A Slip Dress With Edge) will give you a cool girl vibe. However, keeping it simple, (maybe with this cult favorite velvet blazer, on sale) and paring it with a t-shirt and denim, thus letting the jacket be the star is also always a winner in my book!

Shoes

I’ve said this before but the shoe sets the tone of your outfit. Wearing a flat, menswear-inspired loafer or oxford will give you the tomboy feeling your looking for. Buy a quality pair you love with the confidence of knowing you will wear them season after season. I have the Gucci loafer pictured above and know they will be in my closet for years to come! Also, I’ve been reaching for these oxfords and these to wear with everything from maxi dresses to denim lately!

Vintage inspired “boy” sneakers can also give you a borrowed from the boys vibe and are very trendy right now. Look to these for the hottest out right now. Also, love these and these!

Accessories

Jewelry can also have a masculine feel. Large watch faces in addition to clean, minimal pieces of jewelry like this unisex line from Miansai.  The chain choker necklace like I have on is also a great example. Long skinny scarves and bandana neckerchiefs are also perfect for layering with trench jackets and blazers. Lastly, don’t forget baseball caps, fedoras, and baker caps to polish off your outfit.

7 Questions To Declutter Your Closet

7 Questions To Declutter Your Closet 1500 1000 Tammy Caciola

Edit Your Closet and Shop Smarter!!

Do you find yourself saying “I have nothing to wear!” while looking at your overstuffed closet? It’s so easy to get overwhelmed looking at a closet filled with different patterns and prints that do not mix well together. You then feel like you need to go shopping to put an outfit together. The fact is you do not need more, you need less, at least 50% less in your closet. Stop the unnecessary spending that adds more to your wardrobe, and try a closet edit instead.

Simplify your closet by tossing unworn clothes, shoes, and accessories. Imagine being able to get dressed quickly every day in clothes that you love! You will be able to put new outfits together when you can see all of your options.

After your closet detox, you can then go shopping knowing what gaps you have in your wardrobe. Learn what not to buy again from seeing what you have discarded. Notice the cuts and colors didn’t work for you. Now you can shop smart!

A closet clean-out is going to take some time, about 4 hours if that is too much to grab hold of, start with sections of your closet. You are also going to need to be brutal with your decisions. It’s not easy letting clothes!

Put some music on, open a bottle of vino and invite a friend over!

Start With A Quick Scan

Begin at one end of your closet and quickly pull each item out to look at it. Toss anything your gut says you do not want to wear again.  If you spend more than 10 seconds on a piece, hang it back up and keep moving.

Clone Clothing

Many times we will tend to buy the same items because we know the work for us. Edit out the repeat pieces and only keep the pieces you reach for the most.

edit your closet//www.HerFashionedLife.com

Separate Into Three Bins

Put items you have decided to clear out in one of three bins: DonateTake to TailorResale

7 Questions To Ask Yourself

Now ask yourself these questions with every item you have left in your closet.

  1. Would I buy this today if I saw it in the store? Does this reflect my style today?
  2. Does this fit perfectly right now?
  3. Have I worn this in the past two seasons? This will keep your closet on trend also.
  4. Is this a repeat item in my closet?
  5. Is it stained, worn out, or have excessive piling?
  6. Does it make me happy when I put it on? Do I feel beautiful and confident in this?
  7. Is this damaged in any way? If yes, do I love this piece enough to take it to the tailor, this week.

Edit your closet//www.HerStyledView.com

Investment Pieces

This is a bit of a tough call sometimes. We love these pieces enough to pay a premium for them. However, if they are out of your rotation after two seasons and still in their pretty boxes collecting dust, you should resale them. Use sites like TheRealReal and Tradsey to cash out and buy an item you will use regularly.

Maintenance

Now that you have created an edited wardrobe, keep it that way by maintaining it. Closet maintenance is an ongoing process but is well worth it for sure!

  • Keep a bag in your closet so you can immediately toss the pieces out that do not pass the above questions.
  • Try to also make it a habit to remove an item each time you bring a new piece home.

Congratulate yourself for a job well done! You can now enjoy wearing your favorite pieces every day!

Below is my shoppable edit of a capsule wardrobe. These investment-worthy pieces are the backbone of your closet. You can mix in trends with these basics for an effortless look! Visit my Shop Page about Everyday Essentials for more options.

Thank you for reading! If you have any tips for editing your closet, I’d love to hear them in the comments below!
