A Styling Guide To Borrowed From The Boys

Borrowed From The Boys- Her Fashioned Life

Borrowed From The Boys

A good borrowed from the boys look is one of my favorite ways to put an outfit together. I have gone through the 4 Menswear Pieces For A Girl’s Closet and now let’s talk more about how to put it all together!

The key thing to keep in mind is creating juxtaposition or contrast in your outfit. The menswear piece can be fitted or oversized to your liking, just remember to pair it with feminine details. I choose my Chanel mini for both of these looks because it has such a beautiful, feminine feel.

Your shoe choice should also fall into the stiletto heel category unless you’re going for a more sporty look such as here.

A bold red lip for date-night is always a good idea, especially when wearing menswear.

The colors that are paired with a suit also will create contrast. In this post, the maroon velvet is gorgeous with the pinstripe suit!

In one of the pictures below, I changed out the heels for a block heel gold menswear Gucci, which shoe do you like better? Let me know in the comments below!

What You Need To Know About Orange Theory

What You Need To Know About Orange Theory 1754 868 Tammy Caciola

Orange Theory Fitness

If you follow me on social media, you know how much I’m at Orange Theory. I’ve been going 3-4 times a week for over a year and never get bored of it! This high-intensity workout complement my LaGree and Pilates toning workouts perfectly!

So what is Orange Theory?

Orange Theory is a one-hour workout that focuses on training, endurance, strength, and power. It is a heart rate based interval training. They are known for the heart rate monitor that is either worn on your wrist, chest or arm. These options are entirely your personal preference. There is a cost difference between the options. I have found the chest monitor works best for me because I do not have to remember to charge it.

You will see there are several screens around the room. Everyone will have a separate personal box that will state in real time what your name is, calorie burn, heart rate, and splat points are. Your box will also be a color, either grey, blue, green, orange or red. These colors all represent a different heart rate zone.

The theory behind Orange Theory is that you want to spend 12 minutes or more in the orange or red zone. When you do this for one minute, you earn a splat point.

Why do you want splat points?

When you earn a splat point, you are using 85% or more of your heart rate capacity, and you will be burning more calories throughout the day.

What do you do in class?

There are three main areas to workout in, treadmill, row, and floor. There are also a couple of spin bikes and an elliptical to substitute either row or treadmill. I usually use the spin bike instead of a rower because I enjoy it more and therefore I work harder at it.

The treadmills have flex step technology. I can completely notice a difference between the gym that I hear people pounding on and the ones at Orange Theory. The flex step is softer on your joints and more bouncy. However, I opt to powerwalk instead of run because of my knees.

Every class will be different. I have been attending classes for over a year and cannot remember two that were alike. Some days you might be on the treadmill for half the class, and another day you might be 10 minutes treadmill, 10 minutes rower and 10 min floor for the whole hour. The one thing you can count on is you will always have a new workout to look forward to!

The floor exercises are a favorite of mine! Here the different equipment used is a boso ball, ab dollies, weights, TRX, and mat work. The exercise options are endless and changed daily.

Power metrics such as jumping, hoping and such can always be altered to fit your needs.

Do I have to get in shape before I start?

There will be people attending classes that are pregnant, injured and out of shape doing the workout. Whatever your level is know that you are the one in charge of how hard you push yourself and what your body can handle. So not you do not have to be in shape before you start at all.

Everyone is at an individual pace, and there is no judgment at Orange Theory ever! The workout space is somewhat dark, music is turned up, and your motivating coach will be on the mic directing everyone what to do. Most people get into a zone in this fast-paced environment and focus on their workout and not yours.

Anybody Can Do This Workout At Whatever Level They Are Comfotable With!

See The Results.

After every class, you will get an email with a chart detailing how many calories you burnt and your splat point totals. This information is also available on the OT app for your phone.

How Do I Start?

You can use this link HERE to get a free week of workouts. USE CODE OTFASHIONED. However, only this is for a limited time; the general offer is one free workout so do take advantage of this to see if Orange Theory is right for you.

What to know before your first class.

For your first class arrive 30 minutes early. You will need to sign paperwork, get your heart rate monitor. The coach will also take you inside the workout space to go over everything you need to know such as how to read the OT heart rate screen, correctly row and use the equipment.

I honestly love Orange Theory because of the changes I’ve seen in my body and well being. I thought I was at my pinnacle though… until I started the Orange Theory challenge! This has pushed me to limits I didn’t even think about pushing myself too!

I’ll tell you all about this 8-week challenge in my next Orange Theory post!

Use code OTFashioned when signing up.

Full Body IPL Treatment

Full Body IPL Treatment 1616 1080 Tammy Caciola

Getting a full body IPL spot treatment (scroll down for before/after pictures) is one of my favorite anti-aging procedures. I received my first treatment in my mid 30’s and was immediately addicted to how clear my skin was afterward!

I have had four more since then, over 15 years. Always during the winter months so that my skin that has been treated will be entirely covered while it heals. It’s also essential not have any sun exposure during the healing time. If you do, then using a sunscreen with a physical block (Zinc Oxide) is highly recommended.

What’s The Treatment Like

Unlike an IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) treatment on the face, there usually is not numbing cream applied before a body treatment. You shouldn’t need it. The sensation you feel will be like a rubber band flicking you. It’s very manageable. Trust me, I’m a big baby when it comes to pain, and I’ve never needed numbing cream. For me, alot of this treatment is focused on my arms. They are usually wholly treated. The rest of my body, belly, legs, and back are only treated where there are dark sunspots.

The spot treatment moves very fast and doesn’t usually take more than 20 minutes in total.

Aftercare

The only real aftercare you will need is to keep the treated areas out of the sun. However, I do highly suggest having this cream on hand to apply after an IPL procedure.  It’s a french emulsion that addresses burns.  I use it after any laser treatment I get. This cream soothes and speeds the healing process. Spread it on very thick, and your skin will absorb it quickly. You can put as many layers on as you need.

If you do have sun exposure, a physical sunscreen such as this one is ideal.

What you will see on your treated areas are the dark spots getting darker and eventually flaking off. Sometimes it can take three weeks for them to entirely on your body. Your face happens much quicker.

Choosing Your Doctor

Choosing your doctor is the most critical part of getting an IPL done. I have been severely burnt before. Not fun you don’t want to go there. If that does happen though just know that your skin eventually will even out, and the result from the burn, which is striping, will fade.

Luckily, laser technology evolves very quickly, and the new machines out there can prevent this from happening. What device your doctor will be using is import to know.

If your in or around Austin, I highly recommend Dr. Saxon. She is a top-rated expert in her field. Dr. Saxon also has the newest, best machine out there that I have seen. It’s called an ICON IPL machine and has a handheld device that will measure the melanin in your skin. It then sets the exact setting for your skin type. This way there is not any guessing or burning. You can safely achieve clear skin without the chance of burning!

Before

After

Having had melanoma skin cancer in my past, I do suggest you see your dermatologist to get cleared before having this treatment. Hopefully, you are going for yearly skin checks already.

Monochrome Styling

Monochrome dressing is one of my favorite ways to put an outfit together!  It’s also the easiest way to a chic look. When you know how to do it well, dressing in all one color looks expensive, thought-out and just good!

The secrete is to mix up textures. Choose a fuzzy white knit with a white satin skirt and white boots. However, you can look to styling a simple day look also. Try a denim on denim outfit or pair a blue silk top with blue denim jeans and blue suede sandals.

Mixing color tones will also give your outfit more interest. In this post, I have velvet, cotton and patent leather all in blush tones. This outfit is such a great Valentines Day look but would also be amazing any time of the year.
