3 Ways To Stop Hot Flashes

3 Ways To Stop Hot Flashes 2560 1707 Tammy Caciola

3 ways to stop hot flashes

Ladies, let’s face it, hot flashes and night sweats are common and unwanted symptoms when going through menopause. Hot flashes are a common symptom of menopause. There’s nothing worse than feeling your body heat up when you are out shopping, eating with friends, or on a date night! With a sudden rush of heat from your chest to your head, you know it’s coming—a hot flash. Your skin gets red, and you feel like ripping your clothes off! For me, this happens mostly at night, which in turn disturbs my sleep.

Hot flashes occasionally creep up when I’m out and about, too. Did you know that hot flashes last an average of 5 to 10 years while diminishing in severity and frequency? That’s a long time to be uncomfortable and irritable! Below I’m sharing 3 tips to stop hot flashes when you are in a crisis.

If you’re looking to make small and simple lifestyle changes to help with hot flashes, you can exercise and avoid caffeine, alcohol, and spicy foods. If you can, also try keeping your alcohol to a minimum. I know it’s not what you want to hear, but I notice I have trouble sleeping at night because of hot flashes every time I have wine or a cocktail. Dressing in layers can help bring relief, no matter what time of year. After all, hot flashes show up in every season. In addition to these tangible lifestyle changes, you can practice deep breathing when you feel one coming on. Adding meditation and other stress-relief techniques to your daily routine can also decrease the number of hot flashes you have.

I’ve recently started using the KINDRA Cool Down Mist, and I am thrilled with how well it works! Not only am I noticing fewer hot flashes during the day and less sweating at night, but I can also tell a difference in how nourished my skin looks and feels. That’s right – this Cool Down Mist doubles as a nourishing face spray. I feel refreshed, hydrated, and cool each time I use it. It’s as simple as it sounds… when I feel that familiar warmth coming on, I spray the mist on my skin, and it calms it right down. The best part is that it’s small and convenient to carry with you wherever you go! I have a couple at home, in my purse, and in my car to use on the go.

In addition to the cool down mist, I also use KINDRA’s core supplement. These capsules were created for peri/menopause and beyond, so we do not have to do it alone. The Core supplement includes super-antioxidant Pycnogenol that has been clinically studied and shown to support healthy body circulation, mental clarity, and skin suppleness. It has helped with my hot flashes, night sweats, mood swings, and brain fog. I’ve also noticed that my skin feels more nourished since they help with dryness. These supplements also contain Ashwagandha, which helps reduce stress and boost libido. What’s not to love?

If you want to learn more about KINDRA and how it’s helped me in my menopause journey, you can read about KINDRA’s couch conversations here.

7 Tips To Get Out The Door Faster In The Mornings

Do you ever feel rushed and frustrated in the mornings trying to get out the door? Maybe you think to yourself… “if only I would have prepared last night!” I know I have a better day when my mornings are smooth, and I leave the house with everything I need for the day. However, between kids and appointments to owning a business and meetings, my days were just too busy to even think about the next one. However, lately, I’ve been putting forth more effort to be prepared ahead of time, so leaving the house the following day is a breeze.
Below I’m sharing seven tips that have truly helped me get out the door faster in the mornings!
While you’re feeling inspired to be productive and organized, check out my recent post: HOME ORGANIZATION.

1. Have elevated basics you can mix and match quickly in your closet

I still get stressed about what to wear at a moment’s notice as a fashion blogger. I’ve learned over the years that choosing neutrals that mix and match or a monochrome look is an easy outfit option.
I use these formulas on rotation:
Out the door quickly- Leggings, sweater, boots
Lunch with friends- straight leg jeans t-shirt, plaid blazer, sneakers
Date night – having an LBD ready to go is a must.
Casual dinner out – Off the shoulder top, wide-leg pants, and sandals

2. Keep Your Makeup Simple

I am a makeup lover through and through—all the way from eyeliner to highlighter. However, keeping it simple is the only option when you’re in a hurry.
– My favorite foundation for great coverage is Ilia skincare
– I love a cream blush you can swipe and blend with your finger
-Mascara always!
-Pro tip: line your inside upper waterline with a waterproof liner; it’s worth the time.
-lip oil to make it shine
For a 5-minute makeup routine, check out this reel!

3. Use multi-tasking products

When you only have 10 minutes to get yourself out the door, reaching for one item that will do several things is a big timesaver. Multi-tasking beauty products are everywhere now! Lip/cheek tints, foundations with skincare, and SPF benefits. Hair texturizer that doubles up as a dry shampoo and so many more. Utilize them; they all help drastically.

4. Use the right hair tools

Thank goodness for today’s hair tools, am I right?! Invest in an iron that heats up in under 60 sec. When I’m in a time crunch, I usually focus on the front part of my hair by wrapping those pieces around a curling wand and then run my fingers through them. Adding texture spray takes no time but still looks good. Also, having a quality blow dryer is essential and cuts drying time in half without damaging your hair.

5. Prepare the night before

Preparing the night before is a biggie, and though it doesn’t always happen, if you can prepare what you need the night before, you will be ahead of the game! If you do some simple things like laying out your clothes and shoes, having your handbag ready to go, and placing your keys where they need to be, it’s helpful when you are in a rush.

6. Spruce up your hair

Sometimes, all you need to do to your 2-3 day old styled hair, is add a little bit of heat from the blow dryer, texture spay, and the right hair oil. One of my favorite ways to style my hair is with loose beach curls. I use my tapered barrel curling iron. This iron gives you chic loose curls in no time. You can watch a short video tutorial of how I curl my hair here.

7. Put your hair into a low bun

Were you having a bad hair day, toss it back into an easy low bun. You can see how I do this here – it’s so quick and perfect for casual, busy days!

7 Tips For Self-Care In MidLife

7 Tips For Self-Care In MidLife 2560 1707 Tammy Caciola

A regular nightly routine with Kindra | Her Fashioned Life

7 Tips For Self-Care in MidLife

Between aging, menopause, and a crazy busy schedule, I’ve learned so much about my body over the past several years. One of the most essential things in life is my health and wellness. Self-care is the key to success, and for me, that means achieving more balance in my life and taking time out of my day to do things that relax my mind and body.

The best part of my every day is my nighttime routine. I truly see the positive benefits of engaging in a before-bed routine that helps calm my mental headspace before winding down to sleep. Below I’m sharing my regular nightly routine that has helped improve my quality of sleep tremendously in hopes that it helps you as well. I encourage you to prioritize self-care to reap the benefits in your everyday life!

Over the last couple of years, I’ve been using various KINDRA products and have been so impressed with the difference each of them has made in my menopause journey. From a better overall mood and sleep cycle to decreased hot flashes and increased mental clarity, these products have been invaluable to ease menopause symptoms. I have a discount code for you, TAMMY20, if you want to try KINDRA products for yourself!

regular nightly routine

1. Taking time for yourself.

I don’t know about you, but nothing calms my mind more than a soothing bath before bed. There’s something about closing the door to our daily lives for some peace and quiet and slipping into a peaceful tub of warm water. Trust me; it’s a mental relaxation as well as a body.

2. Dry Brushing

There are many benefits to dry-brushing; if you haven’t started, I highly recommend starting. Before getting into the bath, I use a dry brush to help cellulite and crepe skin. When using this exfoliation method, the bath soaks you’re using will absorb into the skin better.

Kindra Soothe Bath Soak for a better quality of sleep

3. Using a bath soak

Speaking of bath soak – I use the Soothe bath soak by Kindra that is ultra-nourishing and soft on my skin. This soak is unlike any other and specifically formulated to consider the tender skin of women experiencing vaginal discomfort or shifting vaginal pH during midlife.

I add this into my bath before going to sleep since it has sleep-supporting chamomile to help calm the skin and mind. It also contains omega-rich, restorative oat kernel extract for skin healing support and hydration!

4. Scented candles

I also add scented candles for aromatherapy and relaxing crystals to my tub. I’m a big believer in the power of crystal therapy which I will detail a little bit more below.

the power of crystal therapy will add relaxation to your bath time

5. Crystal Bath Therapy

I have loved learning about the benefits of crystal bath therapy. Bathing with crystals is almost like conducting your own spa treatment! Not only does it relax the body physically, but it also soothes the mind and the soul, encouraging an even deeper relaxation.

Bathing with crystals is something I’ve thoroughly enjoyed because it is such a powerful way to absorb the energy of natural stones. Combining three great conductors – water, body, and crystals – will supercharge your overall wellbeing.

The most powerful sleep-enhancing crystals are:

  • Fluorite
  • Green Calcite
  • Rose Quartz

6. Just add flowers

Adding fresh flowers to my bath tray creates an even more pleasant surrounding and aesthetic. Flowers always make me happy! I always try to pick some up when I’m grocery shopping.

Detoxifying lemon water with mint | her fashioned life

7. Detox Water

For me, I love a glass of wine to celebrate or on a date night, but I tend to sleep better when I replace the wine at home with a refreshing drink that also has detox benefits. One of my favorite (and easy) beverages instead of wine is a detox lemon water that does the trick every time!

Lemon water is not only good in the morning and throughout the day, but it also detoxes the liver and provides a great night’s rest. The only ingredients I add to my water are lemon and a little bit of mint, and that’s all it needs! Add an editable daisy if you would like.

5 Things To Start Now To Have a Successful 2022

5 Things To Start Now To Have a Successful 2022 2560 1920 Tammy Caciola

With a new year comes new opportunities and goals, and who doesn’t love a fresh start? I personally want to challenge myself this year to become more successful and intentional. Each year, I create a vision board to envision what I want to accomplish.  When I look back at my previous year’s boards, it is mindblowing to see things come to fruition that I had on my board!  Vision boards are a gamechanger and can be created on paper or put together in a digital form to help you manifest your goals. Keep scrolling to see what I’m doing now for the new year, as well as tips on how to have a successful 2022.

First and foremost, reflect on the last year – the good and the bad. Ask yourself what you would like to continue doing and what you want to change. For many of us, 2021 was a very challenging year with lots of twists and turns, so that it may be uncomfortable reminiscing; however, it’s necessary! I encourage you to self-assess and to take time to think about how you would like to grow in 2022.

Doing self-reflection means taking time to focus on your inward self in order to answer important questions about your life. Self-assessments help you better understand yourself, your strengths, your weaknesses, and your core values. Understanding your purpose and potential will help you become more successful in 2022.

I don’t know about you, but I’m not a New Year resolution girl. This year, I’m focusing more on intentionality and tangible goals rather than unattainable resolutions. I want the goals I set for myself to be specific and reachable. If you’ve never heard of SMART goals, it’s a great method that’s backed by research to help you reach your goals. It stands for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-Bound – this is what I will be focusing on to make my goals seem less overwhelming!

Putting yourself before all else does not mean you’re a selfish person. In fact, it means you’re focusing on your own self-care in order to be better for others. While having a goal-setting mindset is a great mental state to be in, sometimes it’s easy to go overboard. It’s so important to set time for yourself, whatever that looks like. You will feel more motivated to actually work toward the goals you’ve set for yourself! I’m trying to get better at this as well.

Maybe you went on a 30-minute walk before or after work… maybe you lost a pound last week… maybe you replaced your go-to dessert after dinner with an apple. The small wins eventually add up to large victories that you’re working so hard to achieve. It’s important to go easy on yourself. Any win is worth celebrating – small wins will always lead to bigger wins and better habits.

Couch Conversations With Kindra About Menopause

Couch Conversations With Kindra About Menopause 2560 2052 Tammy Caciola

A couple of weeks ago, I had the privilege of hosting a small gathering with my girlfriends for a KINDRA “couch conversations” event, and it was so much fun. If you’ve never heard of Kindra before, it’s a company dedicated to changing how women view menopause through education, conversation, and support through estrogen-free supplements.

The very first couch conversation took place on one of the most legendary couches of the all-around powerhouse Gloria Steinem. During this meeting, Gloria was joined by journalist Gayle King, founder Catherine Balsam-Schwaber and ten inspiring women ready to ignite change and start the conversation. Couch conversations change how we view menopause by creating a space for us to listen to one another, and I am so happy to be a part of this life-changing movement.

I chose to host my own event at my best girlfriend’s house. We all felt comfortable opening up to each other and had the best time in the comfort of her beautiful home. I ordered a colorful salad for us, and Dry Wines was kind enough to send up plenty of natural, organic wine choices, so everyone was happy and light-hearted. The meat and cheese board we grazed was from LUX Boards and was a huge hit! Who doesn’t love a good charcuterie board?

Thr0ugh couch conversations, I’ve learned that so many women, myself included, have many questions on their menopause journey but do not know who to ask or where to turn for help. We need a kind of support, knowledge, and encouragement that can only be found in our collective words. Menopause should be openly talked about instead of hidden away as an awkward topic of discussion. Let’s say more TOGETHER.

If you want to host your own couch conversations and change the way menopause is viewed, Kindra makes it easy! Kindra has created a guide to get you started – from conversation starters to cocktail recipes to inspiring insights; you too can plan a Couch Conversation for your circle. It is such an empowering experience. You can get the kit here to get started.

Kindra has also created a quiz to meet your personal needs. This quiz is designed to help you prepare for, manage, and embrace your body’s natural hormonal shifts. You can take the quiz here.

5 Ways To Create A Spa-Like Bedroom Retreat

5 Ways To Create A Spa-Like Bedroom Retreat 2560 1707 Tammy Caciola

As a busy mom and entrepreneur, I’ve come to realize how important sleep can be in my daily routine. Since we sleep 1/3 of our lives, a cozy bedroom can make all the difference in a good night’s rest. Your bedroom should be a place to retreat and rest after a long day, somewhere you can escape taking a break from the busy! If you want to indulge in self-care by refreshing your space to be cozier, I’m sharing five simple steps to create a comfy spa-like bedroom below.

For even more self-care, check out my recent post HERE featuring my favorite skincare.

When in doubt, go with neutrals. A clean color pallet is guaranteed to bring a calming and relaxing aesthetic to your bedroom. Not only are neutrals cozy, but they’re also super easy to wash, which is always a plus. Also, when choosing neutral-colored bedding, it’s easy to mix and match your sheets, comforter, and throw pillows since you’re not married to a bold color or pattern.

Creating a spa feel in your bedroom definitely starts with a neutral scheme!

Life is already busy enough…. your bedroom doesn’t have to be. Like the calming qualities of a neutral pallet, a minimal look will do the same. The less you have in the space to distract your mind, the more you can focus on the value of sleep.

The less clutter, the more relaxing!

The goal is to find bedding that will last for years to come, so spending a bit more to get high-quality bedding is a must in my opinion! My personal favorite bedding is from Sferra – their rich, silky linen sheets and duvets feel like heaven on earth. My sleep has never been better, and I wake up feeling rested and rejuvenated to conquer the day. Sferra crafts the luxury of every day, where beauty and comfort are woven into one with the finest, raw linens you will ever experience.

Invest in linens that make you smile every time you get into bed.

Whether it’s a fresh candle, a diffuser, or your favorite room spray, aromatherapy is one of the most relaxing parts of any self-care routine. Aromatherapy is scientifically proven to relieve stress and has also been used to help treat a wide range of physical and mental conditions.

Is there anything better than a vase full of florals that bring beauty and simplicity to a space? Flowers are an easy way to refresh your bedroom without overdoing it. I love simple white roses that blend well with my bedding and add to the minimal decor aesthetic. This is just another way to create a spa-like bedroom feel for a good night’s rest.

The Kindness Campaign

The Kindness Campaign 1440 2105 Tammy Caciola

promote emotional health

The Kindness Campaign

“Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring. All of these have the potential to turn a life around.”

The Kindness Campaign has become one of my very favorite platforms because I truly believe mental health education, self-care, and emotional support are a few of life’s most important variables. This campaign focuses on life-saving emotional health curriculum and teaches in-class and at-home stories. These stories, journals, lessons, and workshops begin at the young age of 3 years old. The Kindness Campaign aims to normalize emotional health in hopes that the younger generation communicates, connects, and leads differently. They realize bullying, loneliness, and isolation exist, however, instead of allowing these things to go unnoticed, provide positive and accessible tools that promote emotional health.

Below are three interesting facts you might not know about mental and emotional health:

  • Today’s school-age children are the first generation in over 100 years to experience a global pandemic.
  • According to the CDC, almost 1 in 3 students persistently felt sad or hopeless over the past year.
  • Suicide is currently the second leading cause of death among teenagers.

“We have the power to improve outcomes for young people by improving their emotional health.”

Q and A with TKC founder and CEO Andra Liemandt

About Andra Liemandt:

Andra is the founder and CEO of The Kindness Campaign, a nonprofit that provides emotional health tools beginning at age 3. Launched in 2015, TKC’s critical SEL (social-emotional learning) curriculum and programs serve schools and families, utilizing storytelling, creative arts, play, and self-reflection. Under Andra’s leadership, TKC’s reach grew from five schools to 82 in two years. Today, TKC is a national platform, serving students across the country with innovative virtual and in-person offerings.

Andra is also the founder and drummer for The Mrs, a pop-rock band that has appeared on “Good Morning America,” “The Queen Latifah Show,” Buzzfeed, People Magazine, and Billboard. Their viral music video, featuring their signature “Magic Mirror,” currently has 5.4 million views on YouTube. Her belief that art is a portal to emotional health is what drives her work today and informed her latest project called “Music and Kindness,” which she launched nationwide with the National Charity League.

This is where my story takes, I think, an unexpected turn… because those pages eventually became the blueprint for something much bigger than my family’s healing. I started thinking… I wonder if other young people might like this? Clearly, there are children in pain. Maybe this is a helpful tool?

I took a stack of the I Am Enough journals to take to my daughter’s school in 2015, just enough for her class. When the principal saw them, he asked – “Can I get enough of these for my campus?” Then he asked, “Can I get copies for four more campuses?”

Now, this is the point where I usually say, “and then I started The Kindness Campaign,” but I have to be honest with you, that it was more like I unleashed it. This need was already there, because people are hungry for emotional health tools, and they’re hungry for prevention.

Please share how The Kindness Campaign started.

A few years ago, a dear family friend took her own life. And tragically, this person was a childnot much older than my daughters. As you can imagine, when I heard the news… my world stopped.

We all knew this beautiful being, my daughters and I. And as a mother, this is the kind of thing that brings up the loudest, most unrelenting fear. What about my kids? How can I protect them?

We started talking, deeply, about our feelings. Sitting around our kitchen table, we started telling stories. We made notecards of our emotions, and started coming up with a sweet character who could help us with our emotions, and embarked on a little family art project that would one day become a journal. We called it “I Am Enough,” and I made a few Xeroxed copies.

Schools are asking for real guidance in this area, and as a culture, we are finally at a place where we’re taking emotional health seriously.

How have you had to pivot because of COVID?

When schools closed in March, we listened to our community and immediately launched an Emotional Health Needs Survey, so we could find out what our community needed.

In 2020, when so many organizations found themselves devastated, TKC was able to scale, launching two online stores, a library of SEL dance videos and puppet shows, and a full suite of digital curriculum. TKC now serves over 50,000 students. We relaunched our website and along with it, launched two online stores of emotional health curriculum and tools: one for schools, and one for families.

We even created virtual workshop experiences! Most recently, we did an emotional health workshop nationwide, with the National Charity League, which is one of our partners!

What are you working on that you are excited about?

I’m SO excited about our large-scale community art project! The Kindness Campaign has teamed up with HOPE Campaign, The Texas Cultural Trust, and Amy’s Ice Creams to launch a large-scale Kind Mural project that aims to bring hope to our community and also support children’s emotional health nationwide.

We want to know, “What does kindness mean to you?” Share your answer with us, and we’ll include it on our mural, featured prominently on South Congress in Austin, TX!

What are you most proud of regarding TKC?

I’m so proud of our team and so grateful. During 2020, we’ve all learned how to ‘embrace the now.’ We’ve also been over-communicating to know who has the ball and who’s taking our (many!) projects to the finish line.

Everyone on our team has churned out product after product. It’s been really beautiful and empowering to see how we’re sustaining… and thriving! And I think it’s unique.

Tell us what a typical day looks like for you.

I don’t really have a typical day! My girls used to ask me “Is it a ‘Mrs day’ or a ‘TKC day?’” But that has shifted since COVID. Family has always been a huge priority of mine, but it’s been an especially important focus of mine in 2020. I try to assess what my family’s needs are first, before planning out the rest of my day.

I’m a maximizer of time, though!

I listen to podcasts and books while I get dressed… even when I dry my hair. (Mainly, because I hate to blow dry my hair… I mean who doesn’t!?!) – lol!!

I’m always multitasking it’s just the way my brain works. It’s probably why I doodle on a notebook while I’m in meetings, so I stay focused on the task at hand.

During the day, I also like to squeeze in walks with my friends. It checks multiple boxes, it allows me to get up and get moving and to spend time with sweet friends.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

My favorite time is typically watching movies with my family… or, right now, I’m binge-watching the Crown! My spare time is all about feeding my soul. Whether I’m finding the next best read on emotional health or listening to a Brené Brown book or podcast, I get excited about hearing things that are both inspiring and fill my cup! I also have a bible study group that’s all virtual, and I enjoy working out with friends.

Really, I’m a small, intimate gatherer. That’s how I like utilizing my time, and it’s also another way I feed my soul in conversations with friends and family.
