Truth be told, I’ve never been a fan of split hem denim. However, when I tried these jeans on at Austin’s own LuxRox Boutique, I instantly was hooked! I styled them with these fun patent leather, retro heels that I have worn a ton over the years. I love how the seam in the front of the pants along with the split hem exposing the ankle slims your leg by elongating it! Adding the heel brings it up a notch to “legs for days!”

Then I added an oh so soft silk blush top with a burgundy color moto jacket that is gorgeous and luxe! The texture play is perfection combining suede, leather, and silk! I also haven’t stopped wearing these earrings since I bought them. The pearl at the bottom is a chic pop of neutral color that I love.

Elevating A Casual Outfit To Austin Chic

I live in a very casual city, that I completely love, Austin Tx. This beautiful city has a very laid back, casual feel and an artsy vibe. Because of this, my daily outfits have destroyed denim and sneakers on repeat! However, some occasions call for an Austin (change to your city) Chic outfit. Then I always as myself, well what exactly is Austin Chic? It’s kinda hard to nail down, but I always try to keep it simple, understated and add a bit of luxe to my outfit.

Keeping it simple but significate is always my top priority when dressing.

Let me break down how to elevate a casual everyday outfit for a chic look you can wear to a ladies brunch, or any daytime, early evening event.

For this casual but chic look, I have a monochrome ribbed cashmere set on.  Dressing with monochrome pieces is always a quick way to get to a chic outfit. Choosing this ribbed cashmere fabric gives a very luxe feel!  I layered on a  black military jacket with edgy details to add interest. Just tossing the jacket over my shoulders is my favorite way to wear outerwear.

Adding the modern snakeskin bag also adds interest. I love the clean lines, and the gorgeous print with a touch of color breaks up the monochrome ensemble. This crossbody bag has a rose gold chain that is stunning!

Shoes

I always say your shoes will set the tone for your entire outfit. That is why when putting together outfits, I usually start with shoe choice. If you switched my Chanel mules out for white sneakers, you have a completely different casual look.

That said, if you go with a feminine dress or a silk midi skirt, wearing an unexpected sneaker can work also. The contrast will play nicely, and your overall look will be very chic. If you want to wear a sneaker that day go for it, just build an outfit around your shoe choice that will work with what you’re going to do.

If you’ve been following along with me here or on Instagram, you know I usually keep things pretty classic and simple when putting my outfits together. However, when I want to take my outfits up a notch, a statement boot does the trick.

These burgundy snake print boots are my fall obsession, and I’ve been wearing them every chance I get! They are a sock-boot style, which is one of my favorite types of boots. I love that they look great on a bare leg and they easily tucked under my pants.

Style Options

  • The easiest and most chic way to wear statement boots is to keep your clothing in a monochrome tone, such as all black. Keeping your outfit as simple as I have here, lets your boots sing.
  • Mix them with other prints but keeping solid pieces in between. Doing this will give your eye a break from prints so as not to overwhelm. Wear your fun statement boots with solid pants or a skirt. Add a neutral color top and a printed neck scarf or bag.
  • A statement boot can also be a bright color such as red, purple or metallic. You can style solid colored boots in the same way as above too.
  • Red boots paired with a pretty leopard or plaid dress is a perfect way to take that outfit up a notch!

Having an LBD in your closet is a must-have. It’s your fall back to looking chic and put together at a moments notice, no shopping required! Whether you’re headed out for drinks with the girls or a black-tie gala your dress can be styled perfectly for either occasion. However, you don’t want to blend in with the many other black dresses in the same room at your event. Here are some easy style tips on how to make yours stand out while still keeping it classic and chic.

The Dress

First, you want the right LBD. Not to say you can only have one! You want to look for classic, not trendy, lines in the dress. Simple but significant details are however a bonus! Such as beautiful buttons or the sheer ruched neckline on the dress I’m wearing. I was drawn to this dress immediately when I saw it on the Maggy London site!

Keep the hemline a little longer, or a full skirt, if want above the knee. Doing this will keep you from, having a night out clubbing look. I loved the sheer cap sleeves on this dress because I’m always cold inside when the a/c is blasting! Isn’t it funny that guys get to wear coats to get dressed up and women get to expose skin!

The other thing to look for the fabric. Spend a little more to get quality fabric the will hold up through the years of use and dry cleaning.

Once you have the perfect LBD, it’s all in the details to make you stand out from the crowd!

 

Styling Tips

  1. Add interest to your timeless black dress with your accessories. A bold clutch, statement earrings or vibrantly colored stiletto heels with take you to a whole new level of chicness.
  2. Make-up and nail color choice can also be a huge factor when styling your look. Adding a red lip or bold eyeliner will give your face color while choosing the right nail polish will also add to the overall feel of your outfit.
  3. Mixing the fabric and accessory textures is also a perfect way to keep the eye interested! My dress is so much more interesting with the sheer details. Think of adding fur, leather, crocodile in your bag, coat or shoes.
  4. Don’t be afraid to belt it! This will add definition to your waist and be a little unexpected. It breaks up the long simple silhouette and adds a little edge to your look!
  5. Choosing the dress is important but in my opinion it the shoes that will make everyone look twice! My choice is usually a classic all-black look. However, these white stiletto heels have me thinking twice! Seriously good! If they are in your price range, don’t think twice they will sell quickly!  Look for either a sexy, classic heel or one with details such as what I’m wearing. Can you believe mine are only $34.99 and still in stock!

There are some dated fashion rules that in 2018 you need to break! Such as mixing prints and patterns is actually a very chic way to dress, your shoes do not have to match your bag and navy combined with black pair perfectly together! Also please know that you can, and should ditch rule about not wearing white denim after Labor Day.

White combines perfectly with a darker pallet. In cooler weather look to dark knits, moto-jackets, and long trench coats that will give you a modern-classic vibe.

Tonal dressing is a favorite of mine and winter whites are at the top of my color list! Talk about an impressive (but effortless) way to dress! All white can be your go-to outfit for the ease of choosing an outfit as much as all-black can.

STYLE TIP: To keep your denim from looking seasonal, you will want crispy, clean and fitted white denim. Not loose and light fabric.

My exact denim I’m wearing here is actually a DIY. I took these jeans and cut them to ankle length. Leaving a small flare at the bottom.

I am, much to my husband’s chagrin, a self-proclaimed shopping addict. I so love beautiful clothes, bags, and shoes! If you are like me,  and love designer pieces, there is no better way to purchase them at a substantial discount than at The RealReal. I have been shopping this online resale site for a couple of years now, and I’m obsessed with it! If you’re not familiar with The RealReal,  it’s time to do yourself a favor and check out the majorly designer pieces!

The site can be overwhelming considering the massive amount of inventory they have. I’ve received alot of questions about how to navigate the site. So I wanted to share my tips that will help you find the items you love for 70% off without wasting your time shopping around in circles.

1. Know Your Size

When your out shopping, go ahead and try on the Gucci shoes and Burberry trench that you LOVE….but cannot justify paying the high price. Because you might find that exact piece for 70% off and you will want to be able to click buy now with confidence and a big smile, knowing you just scored a fantastic deal!

2. Start Obsessing

Use the hearts next to the items to bookmark them to your obsessions tab. This lets you keep track of items your interested in. Also, if they go on sale that will be reflected there. Highly coveted items will go very quickly so don’t wait long if you know you want it. I am still bummed about missing out on a gorgeous Chloe denim long coat because I waited too long to pull the trigger.

3. Use The 20% Discount Code

There will be a 20% off code at the top of the screen in red! Use that code when you check out. It will apply to pretty much everything except Chanel Bags and a couple of other high-end brands. They will be marked letting you know there is not a discount available.

4. Search Tool

Searching for the exact item you’re looking for is easy. Click on the magnifying tool in the top right corner and just type in what you want.. for example —MaxMara Coat. Then choose “refine” to select your size, color and such. When the results pop up, you can push save, and that search will go into your feed.

5. Customize “Your Feed”

There is a feature only on their app called a feed. This is my go-to way to shop the site! Starting your personalized feed is easy. Start by using their search tool. (See above) When I go to the sight, I mainly scroll my feed for items I’m on the lookout for. Your feed can be more general also, like Frame tops in size XS, or you can also specify a color. It’s super easy and addicting!

The good pieces sell FAST, and this lets you see them right away!

6. Wait List

So you search for your perfect shoe or bag, and it’s sold out! Click “add to the wait list” to be notified if the item comes back in stock. Also, if you have an item on your obsessions that just sold, add it to your waitlist, and you will be notified if it gets returned!

7. Returns

Be sure to click on the Returns Policy tab, next to the details, on every item you purchase. It will be different if the item is more than 20% off. Most Chanel is non-returnable. ALWAYS check this so you don’t get caught with something that doesn’t fit or you end up not liking. You also have to pay the return shipping. However, you do get access to a convenient printable label.

From cut-off shorts to maxi dresses and jeans, a blazer will elevate just about any outfit. You can incorporate this outfit-maker year around using the tips I have below.

Show more skin

Pushing up the sleeves not only gives you a cool girl look, but it also helps with the heat of summer.  In addition, choosing a light sleeveless top to wear under is key. I have on long white denim, but a blazer over cut-off shorts is a favorite look of mine! The contrast between structured and casual pieces is perfect.

Take It Off

If you’re running around in the 100-degree heat and not in the A/C, take it off! You can carry it and still get the impact of having a chic layer.

Wear As A Cape

Wearing as a jacket over your shoulders looks so chic don’t you think? This is my favorite way to wear outerwear. BONUS…wearing a blazer like this, also helps with the heat.

Fabrics

Choosing the right material such as linen or a lightweight natural fabric will also give you relief during the summer.

The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale is here, and it’s better than ever! I spent most of the day Wednesday in the store trying on and getting to know what the must-have pieces were! Also, being the crazy shopper I am, buying A LOT as you can tell from the shopping bags above;)

Tunic Dress Obsession

I was obsessed with this tunic dress/shirt from the moment I saw it on sale at a Nordstrom store! The gathered details are just gorgeous! I knew right away that the light fabric would be perfect for hot Texas summers.  Styling it with a skinny, canvas belt I had in my closet gave my waist a little more definition. In addition, I wanted a chic dressed up look so I wore a classic nude heel. Keeping the purse small played well with the proportions creating contrast with the oversized shirt.

When the colder weather comes, I’ll style it with over-the-knee boots and a fur vest. How cute does that sound?! Wearing a tunic over denim pants or leggings with booties is also an excellent option for fall/winter dressing.

Another option for styling a tunic is to just tuck it into your high-waisted pants or denim. Depending upon the thickness of the fabric of your tunic.

With the busy lives we all lead, sometimes it’s hard to fit in the time it takes to put the perfect date-night look together. Especially after rushing around for kids sports games, practices, and other endless obligations. None the less, with the following tips you’ll be able to be quickly be dressed and ready in 5 minutes or less!

First,  you need to have these pieces in your closet already. Once you have these wardrobe staples, putting an outfit together will be much easier.

Neutral Colors

Silk camisole tops and slip dresses are sexy and easy for a date-night outfit! Just something about wearing lingerie out in public right?! If it’s a chilly night, add a knit cardigan layered over. The contrast of fabrics will only add to the chic, sexy feel.

Choose neutral colors for easy outfit formulas. For example, if you have a black, white, or champagne top piece, it will pair well with either black, white, or champagne on the bottom. Monochrome outfits work well here also, such as all black. You cannot go wrong with any combination of neutrals really.

You could also wear any of those neutral colors with blue denim for a more casual feel.

Slip Dress

A one-and-done slip dress is also a perfect choice. Look to silk fabrics for a pretty sheen to give you a special look for the night.

The cuts should be close to your body, not boxy. Tucking in a cami as I have done here will give you a waist and elongate your legs. I’m always looking for any trick that will help to make my legs look longer!

Having a classic pump is a must in everyone’s closet. If you do not have a pair or two yet, now is the time to change that! Again look to the neutral colors for your quick outfit selections. A pointed toe pump will elongate your leg and make you feel sexy.

I think a wedge heel is more suited for a girls/family night. However, comfort is also needed so that we enjoy ourselves. I have found this budget-friendly brand to be the most comfortable heel I own.

Remember the shoe doesn’t need to be a high heel. I look for either a classic pump or minimal strappy sandals with a lower heel.
